What cutting tools are generally used for cast iron processing?

1, Types and processing characteristics of cast iron
Cast iron can be classified into:; Gray cast iron, white cast iron, malleable cast iron, ductile iron, ductile iron, alloy cast iron, and so on. Gray cast iron is widely used in the automotive industry, which is also a major demand for CNC cutting tools, so processing plants often have a demand for gray cast iron processing.
2, What cutting tools are used for processing ordinary cast iron
The common common common cast iron referred to in this article are gray cast iron, ductile iron, and austenitic cast iron. Gray cast iron has good processing performance, such as hard alloy milling cutters coated with aluminum oxide, which are mostly capable of cutting gray cast iron. Due to the influence of graphite content on the processing performance of ductile iron, it is generally possible to use integral hard alloy rod economical coated alloy milling cutters.
Ordinary cast iron processing tools and economical tungsten steel milling cutters can handle it. Secondly, cobalt containing high-speed steel cutting tools can be used.
3, What cutting tools are used for difficult to machine cast iron
For now, we will only give an example of cold hard cast iron. Cold hard cast iron is a type of wear-resistant cast iron, which is formed by accelerating the cooling of the surface of the cast iron during casting, allowing it to obtain a comprehensive cast iron structure on the surface, resulting in high hardness and wear resistance. Cold hard cast iron can be divided into ordinary cold hard cast iron, nickel chromium cold hard cast iron, high chromium white cast iron, and chromium vanadium white cast iron.
1) The processing characteristics of cold hard cast iron
Cold hard cast iron has high hardness, great brittleness, and a large unit cutting force. Moreover, its chips are in a fragmented shape, and the cutting force and cutting heat are concentrated near the cutting edge due to the short contact between the tool tip and cutting, which easily leads to tool wear and damage. The processed parts of cold hard cast iron are mostly blank, with large and uneven machining allowance, which increases the difficulty of cast iron processing. Of course, there are currently good solutions for cast iron machining tools, cast iron milling cutters, and so on.
2) Selection of Cutting Tools for Cold Hardened Cast Iron Processing
It is best to choose cutting tool materials with high hardness, good wear resistance, and certain strength when processing cold hard cast iron. Generally, YG type hard alloy or alumina ceramic cutting tools with coated fine or ultra-fine grains are used.
3) Cutting parameters for processing cold hard cast iron milling cutters
Hard alloy cutting tools; Low speed large feed. V=about 9m/min, and the feed rate is generally selected based on the main deviation angle and back cutting amount. For rough machining of cast iron, choose 0.5mm/r, and for precision machining of cast iron, choose 0.1-0.4mm/r.
Ceramic cutting tools; Generally, high-speed milling is chosen, with rough and semi precision machining of cast iron V=50-80m/min, and precision machining V=80-120m/min.
Cast iron processing tools, such as cutting particles, can be used for rough, semi precision, and precision machining. If you still don't know what milling cutter to use for cast iron, of course, YG type hard alloy cutting tools should be chosen for processing cast iron milling cutters.
